Domestic Equipment in the solid state area

Domestic equipment mostly used in solid state chemistry

Furnaces

We inherit several muffle furnaces (Nabertherm), tube furnaces (Eurotherm), graphite furnaces (Linn High Therm) and an induktion furnace from Linn High Therm.

Microscopes

The Stereo Polarisationesmicrosopes (SZX-9, Olympus; zoom factor: 57) gives the opportunity to examin crystalls under polarisied light. One of the microsope is with a camera adapter equipped offering the possibility to take pictures of crystalls. "Only" stereo Microskopes (SZ-40, Fa. Olympus und BX-51, Fa. Olympus) with zoom factor 40 are also present. The BX-51 inherits an heating table (TS1500; Linkham), allowing temperatures up tp 1500°C.  With the help of this microscope it is possible to follow high temperature phase transition.

Thermal Analysis

Measurable Parameters and Properties:

Temperatures and enthalpies of phase transitions, glass transitions, crystallisation, melting, reaction behaviour and kinetics, thermal stability, oxidation stability. In addition STA-449C und beim STA-409CD change of mass during the reaction can be obtained. To identify atoms and molecule fragments, which are released to the gas phase during the reaction  STA-409CD is used.
All measurements regarding the instrument are performed in air or helium atmosphere. Standard crucibles are made of zirconium dioxide, aluminium oxide or aluminum

We use following instruments:

  • LOW-Temperature DSC-204 "Phoenix" (Netzsch)

    Temperature Range: -150° bis 600°C
    Dynamic Difference Calorimetry (DDC)

  • High-Temperature DSC-404 (Netzsch)

Temperature Range: room temperature up to 1400°C (aluminium oxide or aluminum crucibles only up to 600°C)
    Dynamic Difference Calorimetry (DDC)

  • High-Temperature STA-449C "Jupiter" (Netzsch)

Temperature Range: room temperature up to 1450°C (aluminium oxide or aluminum crucibles only up to 600°C)
Simultaneous Thermal Analysis (STA): Dynamic Difference Calorimetry (DDC) with Thermogravimetry (TG)

  • High-Temperature STA-409CD with Skimmer Coupling to a Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer (Netzsch)

Temperature Range: room temperature up to 1200°C (aluminium oxide or aluminum crucibles only up to 600°C)
imultaneous Thermal Analysis (STA): Dynamic Difference Calorimetry (DDC) with Thermogravimetry (TG) and Skimmer Coupling to a Quadrupol Mass Spectrometer for the evaporation gas analysis (EGA)
