Two compounds containing the true nitridocarbonate ion CN35- were obtained under essentially pressureless conditions in molten sodium flux, advancing synthetic routes toward this new ionic species. Both compounds combine the CN35- ions with Zintl-like intermetallic building units, opening up a novel class of compounds.
